there is a glass slab of thickness t and refractive index n=1.5.
when seen from one side of the slab, the dust particle appears at a distance 6cm.
from the other side it appears at 4cm.find the thickness t of the glass slab. -

shift=thickness*(1-(1/n))
so 2=t(1-1/(3/2))
so t=6cm... -

ans is 15cm
coz we know that refractive index, n = actual depth/ aparent depth
so actual depth as seen from one side is n x aparent depth frm tht side
i.e. (actual depth)1 = 1.5 x 4 = 6 cm
and (actual depth)2 = 1.5 x 6 = 9cm
so total actual depth(thickness) of the slab is 6+9 = 15cm
got it?????? -
